In my opinion, the biggest issue currently facing the city of Orono is Fire Services.
Simply put, I'm 100% opposed to an independent Orono Fire Department. With more than 100 years of fire service partnership with the city of Long Lake, I believe we need to re-engage with Long Lake and get this sorted out.
What's going on is nonsense.
The city council is elected / appointed to act as servant leaders for our community. Council members are responsible to listen first and act second. In large part, that's not happening.
It's time to bring back kindness, civility and integrity.
Thoughtful investing in Orono is vital to our city.
Being open and honest about where money is being spent is mandatory.
It's time to be transparent about spending.
Born and raised in Wayzata, Minnesota, I've spent my entire youth and adult life in the western suburbs. Over the course of that time, I've had the privilege to participate in some wonderful opportunities, many of which have been community and family based. These have included coaching youth hockey, football and baseball in Orono for many years. I also had the opportunity to coach the Orono Girls High School Varsity Hockey team for 6 seasons. During our time as Long Lake residents, I was a member of Long Lake Park Board. In 2003, our family moved into Orono, where we've resided for 21 years.
I've also served as the Fire Chief for the Long Lake Volunteer Fire Department. During my 14 years on the Long Lake Fire Department, I gained valuable insight in fire department operations, logistics and the requirements of a volunteer-based culture.
My work career spanned nearly 30 years with Target Corporation, including various leadership positions with Dayton's and Target.
I attended St. John's University, graduating with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. I also had a great experience playing 4 years of hockey.
My wife Kathy and I have 2 boys (Ben and Sam) and a wonderful daughter-in-law Riley.
